The Najaf Holy Quran Institute affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) has organized the course, which features lessons on Sawt (melodious voice) and Lahn (rhythm), al-Kafeel website reported.
It is held three days a week and will run for five months, according to Ahmed al-Zameli, an official with the institute.
He said new methods are used to provide the qaris with theoretical and practical information about Sawt and Lahn to enhance the qaris’ skills and prepare them to better serve the Holy Book.
Al-Zameli said the course has been organized with the support of top Iraqi Quran reciter Sheikh Mahdi Qalandar al-Bayati at the request of the country’s Quran reciters.
The lessons offered are on subjects like human voice, vocal cords and their function, exercises to hold breath, and ways to perform Lahn, he added.
